The most helpful work samples capture an artist's unique sensibility and area of investigation, especially as it relates to the proposed work. The aim is to bring the panel as close to the actual experience of being in your audience as possible.
Work Sample Instructions for Theater Directors, Performance Ensembles, Puppeteers, or Solo Performing Artists
Please submit video of either one 10-minute excerpt or two 5-minute excerpts from previously completed work. At least one sample must be from work created in the past 5 years.
MAP requires that video work samples be submitted both online (by posting to a video sharing site) and by mailing in a DVD disk.
For the mailed-in DVD:
- Each excerpt should be its own clearly labeled chapter.
- Send one copy of the DVD containing excerpts.
- You may also optionally include (either as a separate chapter, if room allows, or on a separate disc) one copy ofthe full-length work(s) from which the excerpts are drawn.
- Compilation or promotional video work samples are not accepted.
For the uploaded Video:
- Online: please post to the clips only to the video sharing site YouTube or Vimeo, and provide the links in your online application. For step-by-step instructions on uploading your video, see the FAQs below.
- If your video clips already exist online (either a public site or your own website) you may simply provide a link in your online application.
For step-by-step directions or a tutorial on exporting to these specifications from various applications, see the FAQ.
Work-In-Progress Samples
If the work for which you are seeking funding is already in progress, you may send one work-in-progress sample, in addition samples from previous completed work. Please follow the same formatting and submission requirements listed above.
