The most helpful work samples capture an artist's unique sensibility and area of investigation, especially as it relates to the proposed work. The aim is to bring the panel as close to the actual experience of being in your audience as possible.
Work Sample Instructions for Composers
MAP requires that audio work samples be submitted both online (by posting to a video sharing site) and by mailing in a CD.
For the mailed-in CD:
- Send one copy of a CD containing an original composition created in the past five years.
- Please indicate which tracks or cue points you would like the panel to review. The panel will review up to ten minutes of music per lead artist.
For the uploaded Audio Samples:
- There are three options for uploading sound files.
1. Convert an MP3 into a video using a free service, such as MP32 Tube. 2. Use an application (Windows Movie Maker on Windows or iMovie on Mac) to add the music to a single image and export as a video. Then upload to You Tube or Vimeo. 3. Provide a web link to a site where your music already exists.
For step-by-step directions or a tutorial on exporting to these specifications from various applications, see the FAQ.
Work-In-Progress Samples
If the work for which you are seeking funding is already in progress, you may send one work-in-progress sample, in addition samples from previous completed work. Please follow the same formatting and submission requirements listed above.
