About the Grant
$15,000 to support the commissioning of a new musical performance work by composer Marc Mellits for LEMUR's ensemble of robotic musical instrument and new-music pianist Kathleen Supove.
About the Project
The ensemble for this new work will consist of approximately 25 percussion and stringed robotic instruments, such as the GuitarBot (robotic slide guitar-like instrument), ModBots (modular percussion robots) and XyloBot (xylophone-like robot), plus Ms. Supove on Yamaha Disklavier (MIDI-enabled grand piano). The piece will be approximately 15 minutes in length and be part of a larger program relating to music for humans and machines. The work will premiere at the Flea Theater as part of the Exploding Piano series.
